Black Wave does exactly what its name promises. The surface presents the visual language of movement, sweeping, flowing lines of white and grey against a deep black ground that reads as the crest and trough of an ocean frozen at its most beautiful moment. The ground of Black Wave is a deep, substantial black, not uniform in the way of Belgium Black, but varied in depth, some areas denser, some slightly warmer, giving the ground colour itself a sense of dimensionality. Across this the white veining moves in the broad, sweeping curves that give the stone its name, not the fine nervous threads of classical marbles but bold, flowing movements that cover large areas of the slab, the lines thickening and thinning as they cross the surface, creating a dynamic of movement that is entirely convincing. In some slabs the waves are broadly spaced and grand; in others they cluster and create complex, overlapping fields of white and grey movement.

How It Transforms a Space

Black Wave installed at scale is one of the most visually powerful applications in natural stone. An entrance hall floor in this material creates the effect of standing above water, the fluidity of the patterning so complete that the static nature of the stone momentarily ceases to read. Polished Black Wave is the fullest expression of the stone, the wave patterns glossy and almost three-dimensional against the deep reflective black ground. Honed produces a more restrained, matte black where the movement is present but less emphatically stated. The polished version is the definitive choice for this stone; its drama is realised most fully with the maximum depth and reflectivity of a polished surface.
