About Black Wave Marble
Black Wave does exactly what its name promises. The surface presents the visual language of movement, sweeping, flowing lines of white and grey against a deep black ground that reads as the crest and trough of an ocean frozen at its most beautiful moment. Drama without compromise. Fluidity without softness. The ground of Black Wave is a deep, substantial black, not uniform in the way of Belgium Black, but varied in depth, some areas denser, some slightly warmer, giving the ground colour itself a sense of dimensionality. Black Wave does exactly what its name promises. Drama without compromise. Fluidity without softness.
The ground of Black Wave is a deep, substantial black, not uniform in the way of Belgium Black, but varied in depth, some areas denser, some slightly warmer, giving the ground colour itself a sense of dimensionality. Across this the white veining moves in the broad, sweeping curves that give the stone its name, not the fine nervous threads of classical marbles but bold, flowing movements that cover large areas of the slab, the lines thickening and thinning as they cross the surface, creating a dynamic of movement that is entirely convincing. In some slabs the waves are broadly spaced and grand; in others they cluster and create complex, overlapping fields of white and grey movement.
How It Transforms a Space
Black Wave installed at scale is one of the most visually powerful applications in natural stone. An entrance hall floor in this material creates the effect of standing above water, the fluidity of the patterning so complete that the static nature of the stone momentarily ceases to read. A feature wall becomes a wave captured at maximum height. The room's centre of visual gravity shifts entirely to the stone.
The effect in natural light is of enormous dynamism and energy. Under artificial light the movement remains but deepens, the white veining catching light along its length, the black ground receding into depth.
Where Its Character Belongs
Black Wave is for the architectural moments where presence is everything. The principal entrance to a luxury residential tower. Feature walls in high-end hotel bars and reception areas. Statement flooring in penthouses and signature commercial spaces. The principal bathroom in a flagship residence where the design intent is total visual immersion. Bespoke monumental furniture, large dining tables, sweeping reception desks, where the scale of the wave pattern can read properly.
Interior Compatibility
Black Wave demands an interior that can hold its energy without competing with it. Against pure white or light grey architectural frameworks the waves read with maximum clarity and drama. In a more complex interior palette it becomes the singular energising element. Alongside polished brass and champagne gold the glamour of the stone reaches its peak. Against dark architectural backgrounds it reads as internal movement within an exterior darkness. A stone for the interior that is built around it.
Finish & Surface Character
Polished Black Wave is the fullest expression of the stone, the wave patterns glossy and almost three-dimensional against the deep reflective black ground. Honed produces a more restrained, matte black where the movement is present but less emphatically stated. The polished version is the definitive choice for this stone; its drama is realised most fully with the maximum depth and reflectivity of a polished surface.
Collection Positioning
Black Wave is one of Foremost's most discussed black stones, a material that creates immediate and memorable impact in any design context. Specified for landmark projects where the intent is to create interiors that resist forgetting. Among the collection's most powerful expressions of what natural stone can do when nature and design ambition align.
